Excursion suggestions for Freeport - CruiseHuddle

we skipped the excursions last time and just grabbed a cab to a quiet beach bar maybe 20 minutes from the port forget the name but it was cheap and way less crowded than the ship tours you can find chairs and a cooler of beers and just relax honestly freeport isnt the most exciting port so i think doing your own thing is the better move unless you really want like a dolphin encounter or something

We did the Kayak Nature Tour through the cruise line last year, and it was a solid day. It wasn't a heart-pounding adventure, which was actually perfect for us. You get transported to a pretty calm, mangrove-lined channel. The guide gave some basic paddling tips for the few beginners, and then we set off in these stable, sit-on-top kayaks. It was peaceful—just the sound of the water and birds. We saw a few jellyfish drifting by and some small fish. They stop you on a little sandbar partway through for some conch salad and rum punch (included, which was nice). The big plus was that it felt like a real escape from the port area, which can feel a bit industrial. The downside, and this is my caveat, is that it’s not a “wilderness” experience. You’re in a group, maybe 15-20 kayaks, so it’s a procession. If you’re hoping for solitary exploration, this isn’t it. But if you want something active-ish that gets you out on the water without being too demanding, it’s a good choice. Took about four hours door-to-door, so we were back with enough time to clean up and have a late lunch on the ship. My one concrete tip: wear a swimsuit under your clothes and use *reef-safe* sunscreen if you have it. The bio-oils in regular sunscreen aren’t great for that ecosystem, and you’re literally sitting in the water. A hat that ties on is also crucial; the sun is no joke out on the open stretches between mangroves. I’m with the previous poster in that Freeport isn’t a port where you feel like you’re missing a must-see landmark. For our next stop there, we’re considering just doing the DIY beach bar route. The kayak tour was enjoyable, but knowing the lay of the land now, the freedom to set your own pace and not be on a motorcoach schedule is appealing. Has anyone done the Lucayan National Park tour? I’ve read you can see some nice underwater caves and the gold rock beach, but I’m curious if the ship excursion there feels rushed.
we grabbed day passes for the grand lucayan resort once had the pool beach and some lunch right there super easy to get a cab and worth it if you want a nicer setup but yeah freeport is low key
Thanks for the suggestions so far. I don't cruise on this ship until December, so I have time to plan. I don't remember if I saw the kayak excursion, but it sounds good. I don't know if I've had conch before, so I am unsure about the conch salad, but I can at least give it a try
If you're looking for a good local lunch spot and don't mind a very casual, no-frills vibe, head over to "Conch Salad" at the port's marketplace. It's a bit of a walk from the main pier, but their conch salad is fresh and they'll often let you watch them make it right in front of you. That said, it's not a place you'd spend hours. Could easily pair that with grabbing a cab to a beach for the rest of the day. Freeport really is what you make it—low-key options only.
I was looking earlier today on Royal Caribbean's website to see what excursions were available and none were showing, though I know there were excursions showing before. 🤔
