First cruise as a couple: real advice for keeping it simple and fun

We're thinking about a first cruise, probably a short 4-5 night sail out of Miami, and trying to ignore the noise. What actually matters to us is a clean cabin, simple dinner, and enough energy afterward to meet decent adults. We're a couple, so bars and light flirting appeal. If that turns into a little more with other adults who are clearly into it, fine. Nobody should be pushy, wasted, or acting like being on a ship gives them a pass. Pack less than you think. Read the rules for alcohol, excursions, and cabin power. Don't book an early excursion unless you're okay being wrecked before dinner. If you're new, use one ship tour for convenience, then compare independent options for value. Bring a lock, a bag for shore, meds for motion, and a small nightlight if your cabin is dark and awkward. Also, be cool. First cruises are crowded, and not every adult is there for a hookup. If you want a group vibe, say what you're into plainly and respect the answer. No pressure, no cornering someone at the bar, and no making a whole night weird just because you had two extra drinks. We'd rather keep it fun, direct, and drama-free.

Dont think you have to spend 24/7 together
imo, bring your own toy case. hotel safes weird, ship safes often tiny. also agree on a text word before wandering off. makes direct easy, less pressure, and nobody has to guess if “we’re into it” means yes or maybe.
The alcohol rule is a big one. We did a short cruise and most of our “drama” was figuring out we could only bring one sealed bottle of wine *per person*. We packed wine openers, but couldn’t use them on board because of a corkage fee. Also, “clean cabin” isn't just the steward; wipe down remotes and light switches yourself the first day. You never know.
